Things That Make You Say .....Hmmm

Had nice conditions today with light winds until after noon. Fished basically the same pattern and baits as the past few days but struggld all day. Ended with 10 trout (biggest was 18") and one 19" flounder. Got a few days off to think it over and try again LOL.

Floundering In The Heat

Winds were somewhat lighter today and the fishing was still just as hot as the weather. We boxed 10 trout to 23" and 4 redfish to a perfect "tournament" size 28"er along with one oversize. We had numerous small trout and reds to keep the action steady and released several keeper size trout looking for the fatter ones to take home. We also managed these two hefty flounder on Rootbeer/ red glitter Saltwater Assassins on the spoil banks. Click on the pics for fullsize.



The reds and trout fell for a variety of 4" paddletail baits in just about every conceivable color. Grass and ptholes in thigh deep water was the ticket again.

Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight

Record heat today and 35+ mph winds made it feel like a blast furnace. Saw water temps at 91 degrees today. Thank God the fishing was almost as hot. We boxed 13 trout with 4 topping 20" including a pair of 24"ers. We also added three nice reds for the grill and released three more oversize. All fish caught in less than two feet of water over grass and potholes. Hot lures today were Electric Chicken and Bloody/White Sea Shad and Pearl/Black back Cocahoe Minnows. Here was the biggest of the day weighing over 10 1/2 pounds. Click on the image for the full size pic.

Fishin' With The Newbies

Made a quick morning wade with the son-in-law and his two brothers. The two brothers are saltwater fishing virgins so it was an interesting wade. Both guys managed to pick up a keeper or two on Bloody/white Sea Shad rigged on Title SHot jigs. We fished potholes in thigh deep water. ended with one nice redfish and a couple of solid trout to 18". Not bad for a couple of Wyoming boys. Back to the grind tomorrow. I have about 5 days in a row booked so we'll see what kind of trends develop.

Hot And Windy

Starting to sound like a broken record huh?? It started out breezy and went downhill fast. We had some good fish early on various colored Devil Eyes. Nothing doing on topwaters today. One interesting occurrence today. I hooked a 17" trout in some very clear water around 9:30am. As I was about to land the fish, I noticed a very large trout following closely behind. I mean this was a BIG trout. I landed the 17"er and watched as the Big Girl slowly swam off and headed for a small grass patch. I then made about 15 casts thoroughly working that grass patch over. I was rewarded with a vicious strike and I knew I had a certifiable Baffin Big Girl on the line. She thrashed the surface about 40 feet away from me and I could tell she was just barely hooked. I kept my rod tip down hoping to keep her from throwing the hook. I played her down slowly and it was looking like I was going to prevail. You know whats coming next don't you??

She made one last run and the hook pulled free and she just sat there ten feet away from me, slowly rolled away, shot me the middle fin and swam off. But I know where she lives now.

All fish came on various colored Devil Eyes and the tried and true Bloody/white Sea Shad. Water temps reached 90 degrees this afternoon and winds gusted over forty. Sounds like fun doesn't it?

More With The Munoz Clan

Mark kept up his hot hand landing the biggest trout of the day early on a Cajun Pepper Devil Eye on the same dropoff we started at the previous day. Staying out of the rocks was the hardest thing to do. But if you managed that, the rewards were pretty good. Click on the images to see the full size pics.


Here is the lure of the day


A late day stop produced the most excitement as the boys got into some serious action on trout and a whole bunch of really good 17" to 19" flounder. Looks like some good eating coming up soon. The Cajun Pepper Devil Eye picked up all but one of the flounder which was caught on a New Penny Gulp Shrimp.



Looks like they were fishing a little deep LOL.

I'll Take It

Had a so-so topwater bite early this morning. Mark picked up a solid 20"+ trout on a chartreuse Super Spook Jr. In the same spot, we picked up ten nice trout including a 24" and a chunky 26 1/2"er. Brown Lures Devil Eyes in Firetiger and Cajun Pepper were the hot tickets.





We hit our second spot on a grass/mud flat and picked up a couple more trout and some mid slot redfish. Here is a limit of reds on Daniel's stringer. Bloody/white Sea Shad and chartreuse Baby Minus-1 did all the damage.
